So will they, or won’t they?
A combined campaign, touting both Hillary’s and Obama’s names, “may be where we are headed” according to Clinton. Most reporters agree that Obama isn’t quite as eager to invite her to take the VP spot, would he win the primary. This doesn’t seem very nice; if someone invites you to a party, you’re supposed to return the favor. If someone sends you a birthday card, you send one back. Those are the rules. If Obama would come out with the same message, and promise us all that he would contemplate accepting Hillary on his team, we’d all sleep a lot better.
I still want that double ticket.
So, what’s next for Huckabee?
There were two things wrong with his concession speech last night.
- It was much, much too long. His wife, poor soul, looked like she was about ready to cry, and as happy as I am to have him out of the race, I truly felt sorry for her. Shut up already! I wanted to say, can’t you see the look on her face? Let her go home, have a nice long bath, take a nap.
- The whole damn thing sounded like a job interview. And then it dawned on me: he wants to be Vice. Great. And here I thought we were finally rid of him. Will it never end?
I enjoyed seeing McCain and Bush attempting to appear all lovey-dovey on the White House steps. Who are they kidding? First of all, Bush was nowhere to be seen during McCain’s primary run; second, we all know they hate each other. However, having McCain associate himself with George may be a good thing for the democrats. It’s probably a side effect of the confusion he’s feeling: who am I supposed to go after? Hillary or Obama, Obama or Hillary? Damn it, if only someone would tell me!
Democrats, take your time.

The good people in Brattleboro, Vermont had an extra reason to go to the polls today; they were asked to vote for arresting Bush and Cheney for crimes against the constitution, in case they ever decide to enter the town. If they get impeached, the measure is voided. Read the full article here:

Of course it won’t have any legal consequences; but that’s not the point. The point is that voting is more than merely placing an X next to your favorite’s name; it means having an opinion, whether that opinion is wrong or right, popular or unpopular. I think this is a nice example of being extra involved, while still keeping a sense of humor.
Kudos to Brattleboro.

It’s almost over…or is it?
I have the feeling that we’re stuck with the Clinton/Obama rivalry for a while and I am rethinking my opinion about wanting them both. It’s hard at times to not get sick of them, although I think primary fatigue, as it’s now known, might subside if we can just cut down the field. That means the primary needs to be over already, and the Florida Governor needs to keep his mouth shut about having a recount. What’s wrong with you? What, you’re addicted to recounts now? Should have had your primary when you were supposed to; you’re like the kid that eats his cake a day early and then complains that his birthday party sucks.
Meanwhile, I promised myself to not think about, write about, or talk about Nader. Apparently the press has decided to do the same. Apart from the announcement of his running mate, there has been a blue-balling the likes of which I’ve never seen. I guess any coverage of him would cut into CNN’s Saturday Night Live repeats, and that wouldn’t be good.
McCain has gotten on this whole “who answers the phone at 3 am in the morning” train, and I wonder: why would we want anyone to answer the phone at that ungodly hour? I’d say, let it ring; if you don’t have the decency to check the time zones before you do something bad to us, you don’t deserve our attention. Plus, sticking our heads in the sand when bad things come our way is a great strategy; it’s worked for the current administration.
By the way, why the hell is Huckabee still here? Enough already! We don’t want you!
