German Siegfried Grawert was repeatedly warned about his nudist habit. Then he was fined, but he refused to pay. Eventually, he ended up in jail for ten weeks. He now has his own private cell where he is allowed to be as naked as on the day he was born. Grawert doesn’t see the problem, and says “I’m not bothering anybody with my nudity, am I? Being naked is the most natural thing in the world!”

That depends entirely on your physique, I would say.

Kinder Surprise Ban

German lawmakers want to ban Kinder Surprise eggs because, after 28 years, it suddenly turns out the toys inside are a choking hazard. As if that’s anything new. Of course there’s a choking hazard, that’s part of the fun! Crappy chocolate and a crappy toy in small pieces that you have to put together;  then you will play with it for exactly five minutes before you leave it lying around so your mother can vacuum it up….what’s not to like?

Why is it that every fun thing has to be kept away from children these days; are we trying to raise people that can’t take care of themselves? Why don’t we just pad their rooms and forbid them to go outside?

Millions of the chocolate eggs with a toy inside are sold every year in Europe’s biggest economy, but according to a parliamentary health commission it is dangerous to combine food and toys in one product, the Bild daily said. “Children cannot tell the difference between a toy and food,” the Welt newspaper cited Miriam Gruss from the commission as saying. Granted, sometimes they can’t. That’s why we don’t put nails and marbles in their cereal. Keeping children safe is about using common sense, not about treating them as if they are stupid. A five-year-old is smart enough to know you shouldn’t eat the plastic ball inside the chocolate egg. How stupid do they think kids are? The whole point of the egg is to find out what’s inside; every self-respecting European child knows that. Trust me, if the choice is between a piece of plastic and a chocolate egg, kids know which to put in their mouth.

 

The Naked Woman and the ACLU

Jen Moss wants to ride naked on her bike in the Ashland July 4^th parade. Why? I’m not sure; she probably just likes biking in the buff. Ashland, Oregon has a city ordinance that allows her to frolic around town dressed in only a string, because all the law specifies is that genitalia need to be covered. She is known around town as “the naked lady”. However, the city deems the actual parade a family event, and wants the nudity to be kept to a minimum. Maybe, just this once, she can keep her clothes on. Moss disagrees and plans to protest. She is even considering asking the ACLU for help, because, you know they don’t have anything else to do but protect the rights of aging hippies who desperately need attention. My question is, will she wear a helmet?

A woman in Germany saw a court cut off her child support, after her apathy caused it to be suspended. She appealed, but it was too late; for years, she had been avoiding opening any official correspondence about the case because of her phobia. That’s right, she has a fear of official letters (don’t we all) and has left anything official looking lying around. The court decided this was nonsense, and ruled against her. She admitted she had thought about seeking psychological help, but was too embarrassed. It’s a good thing the Germans are too practical to set this type of precedent; no one would be opening government mail anymore. Hmm…

An Italian couple has been forbidden to marry in the Catholic Church because the groom is paralyzed due to a car accident; he is no longer able to father children, and therefore the local bishop sees no justification to marry them. Bishop Lorenzo Charinelli of Viterbo has refused to marry the couple. They did get married by a justice of the peace, but they won’t get to plan their church wedding; although why they would still want to is a mystery to me.
