Not one of his 7+ houses
With the recent Hurricane problems in the South, it is easy to forget about other areas that still need a lot of attention. Take Iowa, for example; after being ravaged by floods this year, the state saw a slow trickle of government aid. The total clean up costs are now estimated at $504 million, while an additional $810 million will be needed to protect against future floods. However, these numbers change on a regular basis, because with a disaster of this magnitude, it takes time to truly assess damage. Crops that will not be harvested, termite problems, hundreds of businesses and private residences decimated, and psychological damage to the victims who are wondering whether anybody really cares; they all combine into an ugly picture for Iowa.

When McCain and Obama scheduled a campaign stop during the flooding, Iowa Gov. Chet Culver asked both candidates to cancel their plans to ensure all local police could focus on the flooding rather than be diverted to candidate security.
Obama agreed to cancel his trip to the Cedar Rapids area, but McCain proceeded with a tour of Columbus Junction, a severely flooded community in southeast Iowa.
It seems McCain just doesn’t get it; while he is visiting Iowa today to hold a rally at the Eastern Iowa Airport (five miles outside of Cedar Rapids) his schedule does not allow him to go and visit the actual city. He is blatantly ignoring Iowa residents who have asked him to come and survey the damages. Busy, busy, busy, or so the campaign claims. Never has it been more obvious what the McCain camp is thinking: vote for me, while I spit in your face. How hard would it be to change your schedule, skip the goddamn rally and just go and see some of the ravaged area? Where’s your maverick attitude now? It would draw some much needed attention to the fact that Iowa has been all but forgotten, would create a nice photo-op, and McCain would avoid the negative publicity he’s getting out of ignoring what Iowans care about. Because if I know one thing about Iowans, they will not keep quiet about this.

The total damage, although numbers keep growing, and damages are still hard to assess, is estimated to reach $10 billion, Governor Chet Culver says. Let’s elect a President who actually cares enough to do something about that.

Linda Ivell
The Republican Women of Florida are mad as hell at Oprah, because Oprah isn’t doing what they want. Why a lowlife tv-personality wouldn’t give in to these incredibly important women is a mystery to them; all they want is for Oprah to interview Sarah Palin on her show. Is that so much to ask? Nobody even watches!
So, to remind Oprah of the balance of power, Rep. Women of Florida’s President Linda Ivell has been calling for a boycott: no self respecting Florida Republican should, from now on, tune in to the Great Winfrey. She must be soooo scared! Oprah, who has vowed to not interview any political candidates on her show, has refused to crumble under the pressure. (Yes, Obama visited her show, once in ’05, once in ’06, but not since he announced his candidacy) What’s next? Oprah’s numbers will suffer? She will lose her show? She will return to being a nobody, having taken on too big of a challenge?
Oh, but wait. I forgot; nobody gives a shit. Telling Americans to stop watching Oprah is like telling Penguins to give up ice. Maybe Oprah can solve this by having Tina Fey on her show? Meantime, Ivell should get some sun. Seriously, girl.

I should have been president. Now hand me that powder puff.
Drill, Baby, Drill? That’s what you come up with on day three of the convention? Jesus Christ!
I hate Giuliani. I was so hoping he would make it through one damn speech without mentioning 9/11, but no. Of course not. Not because he wants to give the victims the honor they deserve, but because he doesn’t have anything to offer the American public besides fear mongering and that smug little eat-shit-smile.
How is it, that after all the crap that’s happened over the past 7 years, Republicans are still this condescending, and this satisfied with themselves? Would it kill them to admit it when they’re wrong? But watching Giuliani, I’m not sure he even knows how wrong he is.
Obama did this, Obama said that, blah blah blah. Good Christ, Giuliani sounded like a four year old. And then he added that “in choosing Governor Palin for his running mate, John McCain chooses the future”, repeated the stupid experience line, and then went into an absolutely degrading pile of shit about how the hovel that Palin was mayor of “wasn’t cosmopolitan enough for Obama”.
Those that let themselves be swayed by this kind of nonsense weren’t ever going to vote Democrat anyway, so I guess I shouldn’t be so irritated. I do hope Rudi takes a long hard shower tonight; he must smell pretty bad after crawling this deep up McCain’s butt.
