Ron Paul received 12% of the votes in the Nebraska Primary today. Apparently, he is still running; it’s pretty mind boggling that, even with the horrendous voter turnout here today, so many people left their house just so they could vote against McCain. Funny enough, it gives me hope for November.

Watching the results tonight, and seeing the names of so many people running for so many offices, the question occurred to me: how much does a last name matter when you’re on the ballot? I see Beau McCoy and Bob Tingelhoff didn’t win; neither did Preston Love jr. Kersten Borer and Elmer Grey went home without a prize; there’s a man called “Drickey” on some ballot, I see a Gene Kelly, and somebody with the unfortunate last name “Houghtaling”.

Why Theresa Hatcher and Carol Blood ever decided to run for anything is a mystery, but by far my favorite tonight is a man called Frank J. Semin. Imagine what his high school days were like.

I wonder what the “J” stands for?
