It’s the working class white male vote that’s on the chopping block now; who are they going to endorse, Hillary, or Obama? Who knows? We’re talking about 27% of the total Pennsylvania vote; maybe the outcome of this particular battle will tell us whether the voters are more sexist, or more racist. Or maybe it won’t tell us anything at all, and we’ll be stuck wondering who and what until the convention. Announcing that he’s like Gore on his team wasn’t a bad move on Obama’s part; there are still plenty of people that get a little sad when thinking about the man that should have been president during these past 2 terms. Whether Gore will play ball remains to be seen. I’m not holding my breath.
Something that deserves much more attention than it’s getting: the latest results regarding America’s Public School system were just released. It claims that on average 70 % of high school students graduates on time. Some cities are worse off than others: Detroit has the dubious honor of being the worst: at 24.9 %, students that finish high school on time and with diploma in hand are a scary minority. Indianapolis (30.5) and Cleveland (34.1) didn’t fare much better. The total damage is horrendous; the study shows that annually, 1.2 million students drop out entirely. What happens to these kids? Jail, for one; then there’s dead end jobs, addiction, unemployment, and so on and so forth. The nation as a whole should be appalled at these numbers, yet it didn’t get more than a few minutes on the news before we all collectively stuck our heads firmly back in the sand. Apparently, the thought of so many people without high school diplomas does not worry us as a society. Now that’s a creepy thought.
